NEW YORK—Makeup artist Sébastien Tardif launched Veil Cosmetics, a line of multi-tasking, treatment cosmetics. Veil Cosmetics is inspired by a palette of bright-based colors that help to create a natural glowing complexion.

The product line is made with Lightfast Technology™, a blend of active ingredients, including Sepiwhite MSH, Sepicalm VGWP and Revidrate, which are designed to target the production of melanin. Sepiwhite MSH was show to increase luminosity in subjects with dark spots 95 percent of the time, and use of Sepicalm VGWP led to a decrease in melanin production in 88 percent of subjects with dark spots after eight weeks. Revidrate was reported to increase moisture by up to 130 percent on the surface of skin and 81 percent beneath the skin’s surface.

The line launched with Illuminating Complexion Fix, a concealer-treatment hybrid for face and eyes. It is available in twelve shades and is water and drift-resistant. Veil Cosmetics are oil-free, non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, non-irritating and never tested on animals. They are also free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, sodium PCA, propylene glycol and tricolsan.

Generally, makeup is meant to enhance your looks. However, with the summer months right around the corner, your look can go from made up to melted after one walk across the Oval.

Part of the problem is using the same makeup regimen throughout the entire year. The amount of products you use on your face in the winter should not be the same as what you use in the summer.

On hot and humid days, start with a lighter base. This means opting for tinted moisturizer or sheer foundation that won’t clog your pores. Using liquid or cream formulas is OK, but being able to dust some powder over your face without too much coverage is ideal.

When it comes to anything you put on your face during these next few months, formulas with SPF 15 or higher are a must. The sun will be at its strongest, and even if you’re only outside for a short period of time, the UVB/UVA rays can still do damage. Twenty years from now, you’ll be thrilled you opted for the safer way to get glam.

A common indicator of a hot day is seeing girls with raccoon eyes walking across the Oval. If you have extremely long eyelashes or like to wear tons of mascara to highlight your eyes, it’s a good idea to consider using a waterproof formula. While waterproof makeup is more difficult to remove, you’ll maintain your doe-eyed look all day long.

Top make-up artist Adam De Cruz gives his tips for a natural glow this spring.

Spring is here and with the promise of sunny days ahead, what better excuse is there to perk up your winter pallor with a gorgeous glow.

But before you dash to book up that spray tan, why not check out some of the fabulous bronzers hitting the beauty counters this season.

Celebrity make-up artist Adam De Cruz says a powder bronzer is the perfect way to achieve a radiant summer glow.

But like with so many beauty products, application is key.

He told Cover Media: “I like to imagine the sun hitting your face from the top of the room.

“So if you feel the structure of your face, brush the bronzer onto the high points – your temples, your hairline, your cheeks and the bridge of your nose.

“Make sure you don’t apply too much, a light sweep is all you need for a natural looking glow.

“For an even application, dab your brush on the top of your hand first to get most of it off.

“And then use feather-light strokes onto the face. Remember it’s easier to put more make-up on than it is to take it off. So light layering is best,” he adds.

I’m going away for Memorial Day (yay long weekend!). I’m flying and bringing a small carry-on bag, and I’m not sure what products to bring. What are your travel essentials?

Whenever you’re traveling, the makeup that you wear and take with you will depend on where you’re going and for how long, as well as the duration of the flight and what you’ll be doing when you land.

Long flights are incredibly dehydrating, with the inactivity slowing down circulation and the dry atmosphere leaving skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. You may want to sleep, so keep makeup to a minimum, apply moisturizer and lip balm, and drink plenty of water. Even short flights take their toll on the skin, while early starts and hanging around airports can leave you looking as tired as you feel. That said, there are a few simple tips I can share:

• Put your skincare products and sunscreens into travel sized containers.
• Instead of taking a separate moisturizer and foundation, try a tinted moisturizer containing SPF with a concealer to cover any imperfections.

Lynchburg, VA –Two women who survived 21 days in a makeup and hair product desert are now telling their stories.

Johanna Calfee and Amy Bonebright agreed to go three full weeks with no makeup or hair products. Calfee has always loved makeup and used to work in TV.  Bonebright is a little more on the natural side but wants to look older than her students at Liberty University.

“Three weeks later, I can honestly say… I don’t think about it,” said Calfee.

But Calfee says she wasn’t so sure that first week, especially as a speaker on a panel at Oakwood Country Club. She learned right away though she had plenty of encouragement.

“I ran into a friend and he could tell that I was a little bit uncomfortable and he said ‘Don’t be ashamed, let’s just embrace this’,” said Calfee.

And if not encouragement, she didn’t notice much reaction at all.

“People didn’t even blink. Half the time nobody asked, nobody noticed,” said Calfee.

Once Calfee got past her insecurities, she found that while she may not have makeup, she still had control of how her skin looked.

Dermatologists are raising concerns about cosmetics such as foundation and tinted moisturizers that promise sun protection.

“It’s a little misleading,” said Dr. Clay Cockerell, a dermatologist at UT Southwestern Medical Center. “You probably do get some minor protection, but the problem is, with any sunscreen, it really needs to be one that’s been tested as a sunscreen, not sunscreen that’s been added to another product.”

He said the sun protection factor, or SPF, in most cosmetics only protects against one type of ultraviolet ray.

“The SPF is actually originally designed for testing for UVB, for sun-burning type of rays,” he said. “But that has nothing in there about UVA, so we really don’t know how much UVA protection you’re getting, if any at all.”

Top makeup artist to the stars, Lori Neapolitan visited the Newsplex to show how she makes actresses camera ready. She shared her advice with our Tara Wheeler.

Neapolitan used her fingers while applying makeup on Wheeler. She says when you use your fingers, you use less products and it looks more natural on the skin.

“We’re doing that underneath the entire eye, side of the nose, side of the mouth. Sides of the nose, we’re going out sides of the mouth we’re going up, and what that does is that instantly opens up the face,” said Neapolitan.

Carmen Toro, of Bethlehem, has worked in the beauty business for close to 15 years. A certified esthetician, she has noticed a need for a specified product that is beneficial to the skin, easy to use and that accentuates a woman’s individual assets.
